Why force-free training works

Dogs learn fastest when they feel safe and know what is expected of them. Force-free training builds on that: you reward the behaviour you want and set things up so your dog can succeed.

What the science says

Research on learning in animals consistently shows that reward-based methods teach new behaviour reliably without the fear and stress that punishment can cause. A dog who is anxious about getting it wrong is a dog who struggles to learn.

Three simple habits to start with

  • Reward calm, polite behaviour as it happens.
  • Keep sessions short and end on a success.
  • Change the environment before you change the dog.
